The 70's Ellery Queen is far-far superior than the 50s. I like a lot of shows from the 50s. I like most of the show's that's on the archive from the 50s!
...
But come on now, the 70's had some good stuff to and some even greater stuff (The Streets of San Francisco, Canon, Starsky and Hutch, Ellery Queen, Kolchak, Adam 12!) You get my drift. But Definitive TV dropped drastically after the 70s and was/has never been the same since.

I was only 8 when this aired, so I was probably watching Beanie and Cecil and Howdy Doody. However, I'll bet I saw better acting on those shows. The production

is less sophisticated than what anyone with a video camera could do today. Of course, this was done in the "early" days of TV broadcasts, and everything one saw then was the first time they had seen anything like it. That is, the standards and expectations were mush lower.
I wish they'd have shown more of the Kaiser and Fraser cars. Most people today don't know that they existed. 1 1/2 stars.

The production quality is poor for 1950, although television would see rapid improvements over the next few years. The story line is disappointingly weak
...
as well, depending more on visuals than fine acting, which Hart was capable of. The Mademoiselle Louise character is entertaining but the screenwriter didn't give the actors much to work with.
The Dannay/Lee families keep a tight lock on the Ellery Queen properties, so it may be a long time before we see better episides of Ellery Queen from the small screen.

I really love these old shows. People really knew how to act back then. I remember the Ellery Queen from the 70s. This one is just as good. Poor guy

had quite a struggle at the end of this episode. No special effects, just pure acting.
